Readings

I wanted to post about this in ages. It's just that I got busy, went through different phases where I did not have the patience to read as sometimes I feel I need a calm period to really get around a book. So if I was reading, I would get bored of the book and then start another and then another, and I would be left with unfinished books, which I hate cause then they feel like homework. I get excited about finding a book and then getting it on my nook and have that feeling that I have it there to read, it's waiting for me, but when it really comes down to reading it on a daily basis I get discouraged.
I still love my nook, my precious nook.

Finished
I had finished a few months ago Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar. It was fine, but a bit depressing and long and boring at times.
Also a few months ago finished, but enjoyed more than The Bell Jar was The pornographer by John McGahern. I don't know how I stumbled upon this book, but I did and it was engaging. It's about a writer who writes erotica and he meets this woman and gets her pregnant and then wants to get rid of her. At the same time his visits his grandmother in the hospital, where he meets another girl, and so on...It's good.
Just Ride, A Radically Practical Guide to Riding Your Bike by Grant Persen is exactly what it seems, just a nonfictional guide about bikes and riding them.
Finished ages ago, Fear of Flying by Erica Jong, was engaging, sad sometimes, funny most of the times.
Delta of Venus, erotic writings by Anais Nin. Some stories were short and interesting, others creepy, long, boring, so many names appear from nowhere. I would not reread this, nor recommend it.
Finished Ignore Everybody, And 39 Other Keys to Creativity by Hugh MacLeod which was also interesting and maybe fun.

Started/ currently reading/ hoping to finish
I've started Alain de Botton's The Pleasures and Sorrows of work, which at first was a bit boring and too formal, but then it got OK. I still have to finish it, but I'm not loving it.
Prime of Life, Simone de Beauvoir did not finish, but it is interesting and will.
The Gift, Creativity and the Artist in the Modern World by Lewis Hyde is difficult at the beginning, most of part I as he talks about gifts and gift exchange and gratitude, so I'm looking forward to the second part. It's interesting, for sure.
The beginning of Autobiography by Morrissey is a tad boring, but we'll see.

some of last week/some of the weekend

 {evening mood}

 {bellis perennis / daisies}

 {papaver rhoeas / poppy flower + new vase}

 {little evening light}

 {this suitcase I found on the street, perfect for storing}

 {this easy pie recipe - nectarines added afterwards/ just not as good looking}

It would have been amazing topped with strawberries, but I failed to get some.

I purchased a few more new/old kitchen items and now the urge to see them up on a shelf on the right kitchen wall is even more pressing. We need a drill to get the shelf up there. We got the shelf and everything but no drill...yet. Sad.

Last week was a lazy one, I spent loads of time at home, downloaded a new series show, watched a couple of movies, read a bit. This weather gets me in no mood for anything. After five me and R have dinner with our window open, in the kitchen and it feels like we're outdoors, maybe go for a walk and then he surfs the internet while I read or blog. Nothing special but it works well.

 {ceramics workshop / someones' accessories being photographed}

The weekend was a busy one and went by so fast. We had R's mom visiting briefly so we had to move fast and try to do as many things as possible in this short amount of time. We went biking, the three of us all day Saturday, second hand thrifting, Palas, grocery shopping. Friday and Sunday, walks around the neighborhood. We cooked a thing or too, washed way too many dishes, had long coffee breaks in the afternoon. We slept at my sister's two nights and so we had late evening and early morning walks back and forth which were great because we haven't been enjoying the city that much since we moved. After she had taken off on Sunday afternoon we totally crashed and had the best afternoon sleep one could ever ask for. The heat this weekend made us extra tired.

Friday thrifts

I spent a fair amount of money on these things that I don't necessarily need. I didn't even intended to, but I ended up at a couple of thrift shops on Friday and now I have these.
The clothes were cheap and I figured I could use some good cotton around the house, even if I wasn't going to wear them. The striped shirt on the right reminded me of these Ikea tea towels, but mine are going to be more colorful. Underneath that are two shirts for casings just perfect for a couple of pillows we found here at our new place.

The white coffee cups are great and they're kind of a combination between these two.

I decided I want a shelve (or could be two) to showcase these and I'm hoping we'll take a trip this weekend to a couple of hardware stores and see what we can find. I don't care if the owner wouldn't want us to drill a few holes in his walls. Really don't. I have limited space for my kitchen ware as it is.
